Many of John’s designs are known for their association with Holly Hunt, Donghia, David Sutherland, and Flexform.
The Hutton Collections are manufactured at Counot Blandin in Les Vosges, France.
Counot Blandin has been designated with both the Enterprise du Patrimoine Vivant and Indication Géographique by the French government for preserving French crafts and culture. The factory has collaborated with renowned names such as Ruhlmann, JM Frank, Jansen, and contemporary designers like JL Deniot. It has manufactured furniture for notable venues and establishments including the SS Normandie, Hôtel Georges V, and Hôtel Crillon. John Hutton discovered Counot Blandin while he was the design director for Angelo Donghia. The factory’s rich heritage inspired John to create a comprehensive line of furniture.
The furniture designed by John Hutton combines classical forms with contemporary aesthetics that resulted in unique and innovative furniture. The hardware components are made of solid brass or nickel-plated brass and are available in various finishes. They are created through casting or pressed in repoussage, a metalworking technique that involves shaping metal by hammering or pressing it from the reverse side. Custom options include straw marquetry, verre églomisé, tree bark, and specialty finishes.
The wood used is locally sourced solid French white oak or beech wood. The Pierre Collection takes classic French furniture and rescales it for modern living. Many pieces are designed at lounge height for contemporary design, while others are classic pieces rescaled for modern comfort and work well with antiques. The Ensemble Collection has a more of a contemporary and modern aesthetic.
