Tom Engel

Tom’s career journey started in New York with Condé Nast where he gained valuable experience in the importance of collaborating with top creative talent and maintaining high professional standards. Later, he transitioned into the interior design industry and worked for a major national luxury showroom. Working for a manufactured owned multi-line showroom gave him exposure to best practices with over 50 manufacturers. In this role, he had the opportunity to work directly with manufacturer owners, helping them develop their businesses by engaging with interior designers. During this time, Tom learned the significance of controlling manufacturing processes for quality control and avoiding service issues that can damage the relationship between design professionals and their clients.

In 2010, Tom founded Diagonal, a company dedicated to providing design professionals with unique resources not typically found in design centers across the country. Diagonal collaborates with artisans and artists who create custom-made, one-of-a-kind, or limited series works. Diagonal works as an extension of the artisan using a team based approach. Tom can help bring in installers and addresses all the details upfront so there are no issues at the time of installation/delivery.
